Hi there Caravan folks! Greetings from Dubai and our small amphibian seaplane operation, Seawings Dubai!
Our maintenance guys here have been battling for a few years with this issue of cracks on our A/C V Belts, part No 46-4686.
These belts are installed in accordance with Cessna procedures but we are only getting about 3 to 4 days before cracks are appearing, some of them right through to the canvas.
It seems like we're chucking them on a faster rate during the summer, when OAT's are regularly in the high 40's 'c, and then less so in the winter months when A/C demand is lower.

Do any of you guys have a rough guide as to what is acceptable for cracking on these belts and if so what policy do you follow. To me it seems like a real grey area as they seem to crack very quickly and usually right where the seam on the belt is. (The seam being where the two sides of the rubber belt are glued together to form the belt)

I hope your guys can help us with this as it's quiet ridiculous having to change these every time a crack appears, and also how often cracks actually form!

Cheer's,

Andrew

Is the freon pressure in the system at medium or high ? (re: too high)

Is there a production date available on the belt ? (re: aged)

This seems to be an on-going issue. I have heard that there are many operators having the same issue. The AC Belt is only lasting about 200 hours or less, depending on use. There have been many failures reported. These are new belts bought direct from the Cessna factory.
